MaerzMusik 

When? 20th – 29th March, 2015

Where?  Various venues

What? Everything changes and nothing stands still” – This is a famous Heraclitus quote that leads your mind immediately to Greek philosophy and time issues that you probably studied during high school. If you are fond of philosophy, this is the event which suits you! It is the “Festival for Time Issues 2015” and it is dedicated to contemporary time arguments expressed by concerts, installations, performances, movies and discussions in various venues all over Berlin. The opening event will be the “Liquid Room” which will take place in Haus der Berliner Festspiele on 20th March. The other venues will be: ExRotaprint, HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU2), Heimathafen Neukölln, Kraftwerk Berlin, Liquidrom, Philharmonie / Kammermusiksaal. Fantasy Filmfest Nights 

When? 21st – 22nd March, 2015

Where? Cinestar Sony Center

What? Here’s the most awaited event for the horror movie lovers! During this weekend the best experimental as well as cult films will take place at the Cinestar Sony Center in Berlin. If you want to join this event, you must know that you will play an active role becoming the judge of the competition. Before starting the movies voting cards will be handed out and you will have to rate each movie with scores from 1 to 6. Check out the programme and become a judge of the Fantasy Filmfest Nights!

FESTTAGE

Where? PHILHARMONIE BERLIN – GROSSER SAAL, STAATSOPER IM SCHILLER THEATER

What? TheFESTTAGE’, festival of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, will take place for the 20th time and for the 5th time in the Schiller Theatre. The concert has the motto “Hommage à Pierre Boulez”, the great French composer who celebrates his 90th year.

What? The Record Store Day is held every year the third Saturday of April on different continents. Achtung Berlin – New Berlin Film Award

When? 15th -22nd April, 2015

Where? Kino International, Babylon, Filmtheater Friedrichshain, Passage Neukölln, and Volksbühne.

What? From 15th to 22nd the third film festival in Berlin will take place: ‘The Film Festival of New German Cinema from Berlin-Brandenburg’. The “Achtung Berlin” will show short movies and documentaries which have been produced or shot in Berlin-Brandenburg. It is a competition among various categories:

  • “Made in Berlin-Brandenburg”
  • “Made in Berlin-Brandenburg: medium length and short films”
  • “Berlin Highlights”
  • “Retrospective”
  • “Festival Directors’ Choice”
  • “Special”.

Pictoplasma events

When? 29th April – 3rd May, 2015

Where? Babylon, Platoon Kunsthalle, Urban Spree and numerous art spaces in Berlin

What? Are you a lover of contemporary characters as well as graphic, product and fashion design? Well, the Pictoplasma event in Berlin is your occasion to participate to conference talks and festival exhibitions all about that! For 5 days the German capital hosts animations screening, portrait galleries and events all about the contemporary character culture! Gallery Weekend

What? This year Berlin will host the Gallery Weekend from 1st to 3rd of May. The event consists in 2 days and nights of more than 50 galleries opened all over Berlin. You’ll be able to explore well-known galleries together with new and experimental ones.  The galleries participating in this event in Berlin are the well-known ones together with those new and experimental. Among the various galleries, there will be: The Galerie Guido W. Baudach , Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Galerie Buchholz and Galerie Eigen + Art.

Asia-Pacific Weeks

When? 18th – 29th May, 2015

Where? All over Berlin

What? 2015 is the tenth ‘Asia-Pacific Weeks Berlin’. The motto of this year is ‘Smart City’, meaning the greater degree of urbanization that will affect the global future. This event was born with the goal of sharing topics between the German capital and the Asia-Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific region has been gaining ground and this event is the chance to discuss the most relevant arguments about its growth. The Asian-Pacific market will be presented with all the opportunities which it offers to German companies. Moreover, you’ll learn more about new business models, new kinds of partnership and financing for smart cities. All the events that will take place during this week will be addressed to business and politics, research, culture and society themes, such as The International Meeting for Sustainable Urban Development. There will be different workshops and exhibitions all over Berlin.

Carnival of Cultures

When? 22nd – 25th May, 2015

Where? Blücherplatz, Kreuzberg district

What? The Carnival of Cultures is an event that takes place every year in the German Capital. The aim of this festival is to celebrate the cultural diversity of the city giving the chance to Berlin’s ethnic groups to show their culture with customs, rituals and dance. The festival ends with a great street parade during the Pentecost Sunday.

  • Monday 11:00 – 19:00

Velothon – Marathon

When? 31st May, 2015

Where? All races start and end on the Strasse des 17, June.

What? It is a unique race for cyclists and a unique event for the public. The cyclists ride along the most relevant monuments of Berlin, such as the Brandenburg Gate, the East Side Gallery, Siegessäule and Reichstag.  There will be 2 courses: the 60km course, ideal for beginners and the 120km course for ambitious cyclists.
