    Potsdamer Platz is nowadays one of the most modern spots of Berlin, but don’t let that mislead you: There is as much history hidden there as in any other place of the city. Potsdamer Platz was completely destroyed during World War II (except for a single building: the Haus Huth) and it lost all its previous splendour: During the XIX century, it had been one of the cultural and commercial centres of the city. Did you know that the first traffic light of Europe was installed there?
    After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Potsdamer Platz, that had been left destroyed until then, started to be rebuilt. Different architects designed the modern buildings that you can see there nowadays. It doesn’t look anything like the old Potsdamer Platz did, but it became a symbol of the new and unified city of Berlin.

Of course, the business and commercial centre of Berlin needed to have some great shops around. First of all, you can pay a visit to the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, a huge shopping centre that will surprise you. It’s very big and modern, and you will find many clothing and entertainment shops of German and International brands. Besides, you will also find a shop dedicated to the famous Ampelmann, the famous icon of the man that you see in the traffic lights in Berlin. You will find all the products with the print of such an icon: mugs, tote bags, T-shirts… It is the perfect place to buy souvenirs for your loved ones!
    If the weather’s good and you don’t feel like being indoors, you can also go shopping to Friedrichstrasse: Just take Leipziger Strasse and you will be there in no time!

There are plenty of transportation options available, but, in fact, you can walk to many of the tourist attractions of the city. If you walk up Eberstrasse, you will arrive to the Brandenburg Gate , Tiergarten and the Reichstag , and once you arrive to the first of these, you just need to turn right in Unter den Linden and you’ll arrive to the Museum Island , where you will find five of the most important museums of Berlin and the Berlin Cathedral . If you do need to use public transport, in Potsdamer Platz you have the U-Bahn metro station of Potsdamer Platz (U2) and the S-Bahn train station of Berlin Potsdamer Platz Banhof.
  • Potsdamer Platz is definitely worth seeing. There might be no historical monuments there, but the skyscrapers and modern buldings will make the delights of anybody who appreciates modern architecture. One of them deserves a special mention: The Sony Center and its great glass dome, which is illuminated at night and will leave you with your mouth opened. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés where you can sit to have a snack and admire the beauty of this dome designed by Helmut Jahn. There is another special place to visit in Potsdamer Platz and that is the Quartier Daimler Chrysler. You will be able to sit in the gardens and admire the modern buildings in there as well.
    Around the apartments near Potsdamer Platz, you will also find one of the most visited museums of Berlin, the Topography of Terrors, a unique museum that has exhibits both indoors and outdoors and is in the location of the old headquarters of the SS and the Gestapo. There, you will be able to learn a lot about the repression and the horror committed by the Nazis.
    Finally, if you happen to go there when it’s happening, Potsdamer Platz is one of the main locations of the Berlinale, that is, the Berlin International Film Festival.
  • In the Potsdamer Platz Arkade you will find plenty of restaurants, and it is a good option if you’re travelling with your children, since you will see all the options available: currywurst, pretzels, ice-cream… Among the options available in the Potsdamer Platz Arkade you will find the Asian Pavilion, Heisser Wolf and the Lindner Esskultur. If your kids are craving fast food, there is also a Pizza Hut in the area.
    And what about a romantic dinner with some wine tasting? Near Potsdamer Platz you will find the Lutter & Wegner im weinhaus huth, where you will be able to enjoy a German gourmet dinner with a great menu of delicious wines.
  • Potsdamer Platz is a very lively place, and you will find plenty of pubs and bars in the area. Some good and fun options are the Posh Bar, the Caroshi Bar and the Curtain Club, where you will be able to have a drink or a cocktail after a busy day of sightseeing. However, your best option around the apartments near Potsdamer Platz is the neighbourhood of Kreuzberg, one of the youngest and most multicultural neighbourhoods of Berlin. The jazzy Bar Marqués and the punk metal bar Clash are just two example of the unique bars and pubs you will find in this interesting area of the city of Berlin.
