Champs Elysees

The Champs Elysees, the avenue of the fashion world

  • The name “Champs Elysees” may be misleading: It’s not a park, although the great trees on both sides of it provide lots of green, but a huge avenue that goes from the Arc de Triomphe , located in the Place Charles de Gaulle, and the Place de la Concorde. The avenue of the Champs Elysees is almost 2 kilometres long and 70 metres wide, and the French claim that it is the most beautiful avenue in the world. Until the gardens were built in 1667, the Champs Elysees was all fields and kitchen gardens. Nowadays, the avenue hosts hundreds of luxury stores and cafés, and is considered to be the top fashion area in Paris.
  • The Champs Elysees are located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris , which is one of Paris’ main business areas. It’s located at the right bank of the Seine and it hosts some interesting attractions of the city of Paris, like the Place de la Concorde and its Obelisk or the Arc de Triomphe. Since it’s a business district, if you book one of GowithOh’s apartments near the Champs Elysees, you will have many workers as neighbours: the 8th arrondissement of Paris is the area of the capital of France that employs the most people. In that area, you will also find the Église de la Madeleine, a beautiful little church, and the Elysee Palace, the place of residence of the President of France.
  • Actually, the main thing you can do in the Champs Elysees is… shopping! You will find all sorts of fashion stores there: A brand that wants some status needs to be in such an important avenue for the fashion world, so there you will find all of them: Hugo Boss, Burberry, Chanel… One of the most impressive stores is the French brand Louis Vuitton, that has a boutique with three floors! Besides, you can buy other things as well: There are also beauty stores, bookshops, and entertainment and technology stores, among many others. You can spend the whole day shopping there, so have your credit card ready!
But beware! Not everything is adequate for all budgets. At the end of the Champs Elysees you will find the street with the most expensive boutiques in Paris: Montaigne Avenue, where you will find brands like Prada and Gucci, among others.

Paris is a huge city, but if you are used to walking, it is also reachable by foot. If you walk along all the avenue of the Champs Elysees all the way until the end, you will reach the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre Museum. Isn’t that a lovely promenade?
  • If you can manage to look someplace other than the window displays of the many boutiques located in the Champs Elysees, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of such an avenue: It is surrounded by trees in both sides, gardens and majestic buildings. You can spot the Arc de Triomphe on the one side, and the Place de la Concorde on the other. Once you arrive to the latter, you will be able to see the Obelisk, yet another of the landmarks of Paris.
