Louvre Museum

The Louvre Museum, art and culture for days

  • The Louvre Museum is one of Paris’ greatest attractions: Every great city has its great museum, the one that stands above all the other ones – but none of them collects up the greatness you can find in the Louvre Museum. From archaeological wonders from the Egyptian civilisation to the famous Mona Lisa, the Louvre Museum offers enough art for days and it is a must visit even for those who don’t usually add museums to their to-do list. It is, after all, the world’s most visited museum, with almost 10 million visitors a year.
The location itself is impressive: The Louvre Palace dates from the 12th century, which was built as a fortress and opened as a museum in 1793. The numbers are also impressive: 60,600 squared metres of collection and more than 460.000 pieces. If you’re about to visit the Louvre Museum, get ready to be overwhelmed with the greatness of the world!
  • The Louvre Museum is located right at the centre of the capital of France, in the 1st arrondissement of the city, one of the oldest: the Île de la Cité, where Notre Dame cathedral is located, was the centre of Lutelia, which was the name given to Paris by the Romans. The Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens cover a significant part of the district, which is one of the smallest and the least populated – although there are so many visitors that it won’t be the feeling you will get! If you book one of GowithOh’s apartments near the Louvre Museum, you will be surrounded by other tourists like yourself, who will be getting to know the wonders of one of the most magical places in Europe.
  • If you’re staying in one of GowithOh’s apartments near the Louvre Museum and you’re wondering where to go shopping, there is a clear answer: The Champs Elysées! The most famous avenue of the capital of France is the main shopping destination in the city: There, you will find all the major brands, several unique boutiques and also haute-couture boutiques with designer brands such as Givenchy and Louis Vuitton. You will also be able to buy shoes, bags and cultural products, since there are some entertainment shops where to buy books, records and technology products.
Of course, the Louvre Museum has a wonderful gift shop as well. There you will be able to buy art books, prints, posters, stationery products, bags and many more things, imprinted with your favourite paintings.
But that’s not all! Very close to the Louvre Museum, you will find Rue Rivoli, a wonderful street full of boutiques. Besides, there is also the underground shopping centre Le Carroussel du Louvre, where besides shopping you will be able to see La Pyramide Inversée, the skylight shaped as an inverted pyramid.
  • Almost all sightseeing buses stop by the Louvre Museum, so you can get one to visit other important landmarks in other areas of the city. If you prefer the metro, you have plenty of options available as well: In the station Louvre – Rivoli, you will have access to line 1, which you can get in the station Tuileries as well. Besides, you can also walk towards the station Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre and get line 7 there.

  • Of course, the main thing to do if you book one of our apartments near the Louvre Museum is, of course, visiting it! It has so much art and knowledge that you could get lost in there for days. If you have to choose one museum to visit in Paris that would have to be, without a doubt, the Louvre Museum, the most visited museum in the whole world. You will be able to see antiquities and remains from the Egyptians, Greek, Etruscan Roman and others, as well as legend such as the Mona Lisa and many other important art pieces, such as Raphael’s and Michelangelo’s. It opens at 9 am every day except for Tuesdays, when it remains closed. You can get your tickets online or right there at the museum. It is so big that they also offer passes for two, four and six days so the art lovers don’t miss anything in it. Don’t miss the beautiful pyramids on the outside, an art piece themselves! Next to the Louvre Museum, you will also find the Place du Carrousel, where the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel stands: it is a smaller arc than the famous Arc de Triomphe that was also built under Napoleon’s orders, to proudly commemorate his victories.
There is much more to visit in the area. Next to the Louvre Museum you will have other famous attractions, like the Tuileries Gardens, the Champs Elysées or Place de la Concorde. If you walk until Place de la Concorde and cross the river, you will be able to visit Les Invalides and the Rodin Museum – in case you didn’t have enough art with the Mona Lisa and its surroundings! Finally, if you walk north from the Louvre Museum, you will find Paris Opera and will be able to get lost in the beautiful streets and passages of the district.
  • If you stay in one of our apartments near the Louvre Museum, you will have many places to eat! Right by the museum itself, you will find the Café Richelieu, Les Cafes de la Pyramide or le Café Le Grand Louvre, perfect places for having lunch or for tea time – you will be able to try many French pastries in there! If you’re travelling with kids, you can just buy some sandwiches and enjoy them at the Tuileries Gardens, a perfect plan if the weather’s good.
Other great options to try French cuisine are Le Fumoir, le Louvre Bouteille, a fancy place but with great food, and a little bistro called Chez Claude, which makes a perfect dinner place: good music, great food and a good wine menu. Is there a better combination?
  • Do you still have some energy left after spending the day breathing art and history in the many galleries of the Louvre Museum? Don’t worry, because there are places to have fun around as well! If you’re travelling with your friends, the Pub Crawl is a great option – that’s right, you can do that in Paris as well! Right by the corner you will find the place where the Pub Crawl starts.
If you prefer to just have a nice and relaxing drink, you will find many other pubs and bars in the area.
